Great Stuff Media Press Release

We are truly all in this together! The Great Stuff Savvy and Home Resale Shops in the Talleyville Center located in north Wilmington have earned a beloved reputation in the community since opening doors nearly a decade ago, as a purpose-driven non-profit. Energized by dedicated employees and volunteers who are proud to offer upscale women’s apparel, accessories, and home furnishings, Great Stuff has attracted many shoppers in the community who know where to find top brand names to complete their wardrobe and unique home treasures at a terrific value! More than that, shoppers, employees, and volunteers were moved by the shop’s mission: to support the life-changing programs and services offered through the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC), helping women and men in our local community who are impacted by breast cancer. Great Stuff, itself, successfully grew its operations with the opening of a Home shop, but also grew in meaning and into the hearts of many breast cancer survivors and community members who were either volunteers or patrons of the shops. Great Stuff became a place for breast cancer patients and their families to find mental support, empowerment, friendship, and create life-long bonds among the Great Stuff community created within the shop’s pink and silver walls and through the shop’s signature Sip and Shop events.

Unfortunately, the non-profit resale shops, like other retailers, have not been spared the devastating financial impacts of COVID-19. The State-forced shut down of retail operations in March took its toll on the shops, ceasing sales and acceptance of any donations. Facing mounting costs without any offsetting income, an uncertain future for retail operations, and limited knowledge of the virus at the time, the difficult decision to close the Great Stuff shops in the summer was rendered.

Today, however, is a new day for Delaware and for Great Stuff! As retail operations begin to gradually open in June, the future holds new possibilities that must be explored to re-evaluate continued operations. Taking necessary cost-cutting steps, the Great Stuff Home location will be closing this summer to allow the shops to consolidate operations into the Great Stuff Savvy location, which will continue to offer upscale clothing and accessories as well as a selection of home furnishings under one roof. Hand sanitizer will be available and social distancing practices will be in place. Volunteers and patrons have also come forth, passionately pleading that Great Stuff be allowed a fighting chance to try to emerge from this pandemic. However, it will take an entire community to make Great Stuff sustainable once again. Now, more than ever, we need your help to keep Great Stuff alive! How can you help? In a call-to-action, Great Stuff and Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition ask that you step up and share our story with family, friends, and those in your sphere of influence in supporting Great Stuff by both shopping and donating at our shop. Great bargains await and new donations are in great need to replenish inventory and generate ongoing sales income to cover the shop’s monthly costs and ensure future sustainability. If you’ve taken spring cleaning to a new height during quarantine, please donate your no longer wanted clothing and home goods and take advantage of the new incentives for charitable donations this tax year while helping a wonderful cause! The power to make a difference in continuing the legacy of Great Stuff as a community benefactor over the next ten years rests in your hands. Please answer the call. Net proceeds benefit programs and services provided by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, a 501(c)3 in our local communities. All donations are tax deductible.
