Spring Classical Concert

Sunday, March 18, 2018 @ 3:00 p.m. 

Dover Downs Rollins Center

The Dover Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Donald Buxton, will launch the second half of its 2017-2018 50th Anniversary Season on Sunday, March 18, 2018. The concert will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Dover Downs Rollins Center.

The centerpiece of our Spring Classical Concert will be a performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto by Stefan Xhori, our talented concertmaster. Additional works for this concert are Shostakovich’s Overture Festivo, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, and Sibelius’ Finlandia. 

Mr. Xhori continues to perform with a number of organizations in the tristate area since he moved to the US from Albania, his native country, in 1993. Since he has become concertmaster of the Dover Symphony, he has developed a following of loyal listeners for his solo performances. He teaches violin for the Music School of Delaware and at his home studio.

Valet parking will be available. Sweet treats will continue to be offered at our Bake Sale.

Admission prices are Adults--$20, Seniors/Students/Military/First Responders—$15. Young people under 18 are free with a paying adult. For ticket sales log on to www.doversymphony.org or call 302-270-1903. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

The Journey of Robert F. Kennedy

THE JOURNEY OF ROBERT F. KENNEDY is being presented by Dan Pritchett on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 7:00 PM in THE GREAT HALL, 425 N. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE. Robert F. Kennedy, the younger brother of John F. Kennedy, was running for present 50 years ago when he was killed in 1968 by an assassin's bullet at age 42. This presentation will look back at his brief but extraordinary life and his remarkable campaign for the presidency. Presenter Dan Pritchett has done many presentations over the years including John F. Kennedy and President Lincoln. Dan has been teaching American history since 1969 at Capital School District, Delaware University and Osher Lifelong Learning. The community is welcome and there is no charge. Chesapeake Golf Expo

Chesapeake Golf Expo
The inaugural Chesapeake Golf Expo will be held March 23rd and 24th at Heritage Shores Golf Club in Bridgeville, Delaware.

The expo, organized and run by Independent Newsmedia, Inc. and the Sussex Post, partnering with Heritage Shores, will shine the spotlight on golf in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Over 25 vendors, including some of the top courses in Delaware and Maryland will be on hand. In addition, there will be new club demonstrations from some of golf’s most renowned manufacturers, including Taylor Made and Titleist.

The Chesapeake Golf Expo will run Friday, March 23rd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Friday expo opening will be preceded by a golf tournament at Heritage Shores. Heritage Shores Golf Club is an award-winning, 7,005-yard, 18-hole layout designed by prestigious golf architect Arthur Hills. The tournament is open to the public and costs $75 per person to participate in. It will be a scramble format with prizes available. Admission to the expo is included in the tournament fee. The shotgun start will be at 11:00 a.m.

On Saturday, there will be door prizes given out hourly as well as informational and educational sessions throughout the day. Weather permitting, there will also be outdoor contests for putting, chipping and driving. Food and beverages will be available throughout both days with a bourbon tasting scheduled for Saturday evening immediately after the expo.

Throughout both days, Brookfield Residential and Ryan Homes will offer on-site house tours of Heritage Shores, Delaware’s most vibrant 55 & better golf community!

DE Ag Museum - Annual Benefit Auction/Flea Market

All proceeds from the auction and flea market benefit the Agricultural Museum.  Items to be donated can be dropped off at the Museum Tuesdays through Fridays between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. or call the Museum to arrange for pickup.  Unfortunately, there are some items, including electronics, that we do not accept. MODERN MATURITY CENTER HOSTS FRIDAY NIGHT FRY-UP

The Modern Maturity Center hosts its second Friday Night Fry-Up, Friday, April 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. Eat-in or carry-out. Stop by and pick up dinner for the family. This is a fundraiser for MMC to support programs for older adults in the aftermath of state funding cuts. Two menu choices are available - $15 for fried fish, mac & cheese, cole slaw, corn on the cob, cornbread and a beverage or $15 for fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, cole slaw, corn on the cob, cornbread and a beverage.. Desserts are also available for purchase for $4 each - homemade strawberry shortcake or a sundae bar. A cash bar will be open as well. Advance ticket sales only.
