      The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for St. Thomas More Academy (STMA) on Wednesday, November 13th, at their campus at 133 St. Thomas More Drive in Magnolia.  Members of the Chamber staff, ambassadors and friends were pleased to join the folks at St. Thomas More to celebrate their school’s work in the community. 

      Saint Thomas More Academy, a co-ed Catholic college preparatory school in the Diocese of Wilmington, educates young women and men of all cultural and economic backgrounds for academic excellence using Catholic teachings and Gospel values; promotes integrated arts, community service and athletics; develops individuals, in a safe environment, to share their God-given gifts; and graduates well-rounded citizens.  The curriculum and the traditions of STMA provide an educational journey for high school students in a Christ-centered environment. Catholic education comes from a strong foundation and a long history – the faculty and staff at STMA are proud to build on that legacy by continuing to offer an education that challenges the mind, builds the body, and develops the spirit. STMA is the high school of Holy Cross Parish in Dover, a part of the Diocese of Wilmington.

      STMA offers courses that will prepare students for college and beyond. In addition, students can enjoy experiences in music and the arts, as well as a vibrant sports program. Saint Thomas More Academy’s international student program supports and furthers our mission of developing students who respect and appreciate diversity, understand other cultures and act as responsible citizens in our global society. They work hard to maintain a diverse mix of students from all over the globe. STMA has hosted students from China, South Korea, Columbia, Switzerland, Spain, and Japan.

      As a proud member of the Central Delaware community, STMA offers students the opportunity to give back to the community in acts of Christian service. Each student is required to complete 25 service hours per year as part of their graduation requirements. These hours of service help to build a life-long habit of community service and form the community’s servant leaders of tomorrow. STMA’s emphasis on faith-based education and an attitude of service are built on the words of their namesake, St. Thomas More: “Education is not the piling on of learning, information, data, facts, skills, or abilities, but is rather making visible what is hidden as a seed.”
