Monster Miles for a Cause and Halloween Costume Contest

Monster Miles for a Cause and Halloween Costume Contest

Monster Miles for a Cause is a unique fundraising walk on the racetrack at Dover International Speedway - the Monster Mile!  This un-timed walk is a family friendly event to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and hosted by Dover International Speedway.

Join us with your friends and family, RAIN or SHINE, to join in the fun and food. We will have a beer garden available to everyone registered. Run or walk in honor or memory of someone in your life who has been impacted by breast cancer. Participants are invited to be creative with team names and attire—wear PINK! We are also having a Halloween costume contest, with prizes for best individual and group costumes.

All proceeds from the 2017 Monster Miles for a Cause benefit DBCC’s programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to men and women in our local community who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of breast cancer.

On-site registration begins at 8:00 am, and the walk steps off at 10:00 am. Walkers should arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. Registration is $20 per person ($25 on "race" day). Children 12 and under walk free with an adult.

NEW Light The Night Walk

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Delaware Chapter, invites you to participate in our annual Light The Night Walk. This event will give you and your business the opportunity to interface with approximately 1000+ individuals who are living with or affected by cancer.

When: Saturday, October 21, 2017 registration begins at 4:30pm

Where: Legislative Mall, Dover DE (410 Legislative Avenue, Dover, DE 19901)

Why: Bringing patients, their families and caregivers together is a great way to offer and show support for those affected by cancer. The Light The Night Walk is another way where LLS works to bring together patients and their loved ones in a celebration of survivorship and honoring those we may have lost along the way. Patients are the reason LLS exists, and why we work tirelessly to raise money to fund research and our patient services programs. This event aims to bring together this similar group of people at one fun, family-focused picnic for all to enjoy.

How can YOUR business participate?

Your business can sponsor the event or have a vendor table, ensuring that attendees are exposed to your services offered and collateral materials.

S Sponsorships begin at $1,500 and offer a variety of benefits, including, but not limited to:

- Vendor table at the Walk in October with opportunity to distribute materials and giveaways (includes one 6-foot table with 2 chairs, with placement in a high-traffic area for some levels);

- Promotion in all Picnic marketing materials and signage as a sponsor (e-communications, on LTN Delaware Website, etc.);

- Opportunity for recognition in Walk materials and at the Walk;

- Other benefits are negotiable and can be discussed between LLS and the potential sponsor.

S Vendor tables are available for $500. Includes one 8-foot table with 2 chairs and placement at the Walk in a high-traffic area where guests will visit. We encourage vendors to distribute materials and giveaways and potentially have a fun activity for kids who are attending the event.

Reserve your space today! In order to adequately prepare and promote our sponsors and vendors, we ask that your respond by October 1, 2017 to Natalie Di Sabatino at natalie.disabatino@lls.org or 302-661-7300. Payment does not need to be made until the date of the Walk, on October 7th.

MAKE-A-DIFFERENCE-DAY 2017

MAKE-A-DIFFERENCE-DAY 2017

Please share the joy of the first Make-A-Difference-Day at Kent County’s new Recreation Center and Sports Fields located at 1683 New Burton Road, Dover, Delaware. Trails will need to be established, trees will be planted, and comfort amenities such as picnic tables and benches will be installed.

As you can guess, like all past Make-A-Difference Day projects many hard working volunteers will be needed to clear thick underbrush, trees, and discarded items. Once a trail-way is laid out, an underlayment and stone dust will need to be applied. Other volunteers will be needed to plant trees, stake and guy the trees, while other will be adding mulch to the newly planted trees. A number of volunteers will be needed to remove trash and discarded items.

There will be something for all ages, skill levels, and abilities for volunteers to do. Some volunteers enjoy coming as a group, others wish to come as a family unit, while others (such as military) came as a squadron or unit. Scout units and sports teams as well have enjoyed the experience of community involvement in making a place better than they found it. Other volunteers enjoy just being one-on-one with nature.

Volunteers are asked to arrive for check-in between 9:00 and 9:30 A.M., we will finish before 1:00 P.M. For those volunteers that have been part of past environmental projects Kent County wants to thank you for your service. For new volunteers we would like to have you enjoy Kent County’s newest Recreation Center and help with this area beautification project.

There will be something for all ages and abilities to do. Tree Planting, Trail Blazing, and Site Clean-up (trash, and unwanted vegetation). For safety, volunteers will be working under the supervision of "Team Leaders" and Parks Staff.

Please bring leather work gloves, hard-soled, lace-up shoes or boots (NO SNEAKERS, PLEASE), and a round-point shovel and a garden rake if you have one, we have limited rakes and shovels on site. Be sure to dress appropriately for outdoor work and the weather. A handicapped port-o-pot restroom and hot and cold drinks, breakfast snacks, and lunch will be provided to all who attend.

All participants under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a pre-registered adult, parent, guardian, or volunteer and provide Kent County with a signed liability waiver/release form for the under 18 year old person. E-mail, FAX (302-744-9681), snail-mail or present completed and signed waiver/release to Parks & Recreation, 1683 New Burton Road., Dover, DE 19904, or bring it on the day of the event. It will save a great deal of time at the sign-in table if we have the form and your information beforehand. No person under 18 will be allowed to participate without a signed waiver/release.

If you wish to be a "Adult Team Leader"(over 18) you will be required to register in advance, receive a "Team Leader Number" and attend a lunch-time "Safety Training" the day before the event (Friday, 27 October 2017) between the hours 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. Pizza and sodas will be provided by Kent County. "Team Leaders" will receive a team leader ball cap after the training. Team Leader Training will be conducted at the event site. Volunteers will be assigned to Team Leaders on the day of the event.

To register as a Volunteer and/or a Team Leader and for more information about this special public event, call: Michael Rigby , Kent County Division of Parks, 302-744-2492 or e-mail him at: michael.rigby@co.kent.de.us

Volunteers (Not Team Leaders) may also register on the day of the event at the project site. All registered volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation and possibly other appreciation gifts (sponsors pending and welcomed).

Please join Kent County Community Services on Make-A-Difference-Day 2017 at Kent County’s Recreation Center. Come celebrate and enjoy the experience of leaving a place better than you found it.
