CDCC joins the Town of Cheswold for a Ribbon Cutting
DOVER - The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Town of Cheswold on July 8th at 11:30 am.  The ceremony was held at School Lane Park on School Lane in Cheswold. Chamber members, friends, and staff members joined the Town of Cheswold staff to celebrate the the installation and completion of a pressurized water and fire hydrant upgrade.
This completed project has been more than 20+ years in the making for the Old Town area of Cheswold. It was originally the vision of former Mayors Dorothy “Dottie” Dempsey & Donald “Don” F. Tinari, but at the time did not receive enough support to bring it to completion. Sam Callendar, Cheswold Town Administrator for the past 15+ years, has finally been able to foster the collaboration needed among several entities to make the dream of this project a reality.  The community of Cheswold has used wells as their primary water source for many years.  Because of the unpredictable nature of wells in terms of water pressure and variable amounts of water available at one time, the Town of Cheswold has suffered multiple fires resulting in the complete loss of structures, most recently as April 2021, and even a death 4 years ago.  The new pressurized water system and fire hydrant upgrade promise to help prevent losses of this kind.
The Town of Cheswold, dating back to 1856 under the name Leipsic Station and one of the smaller municipalities in Delaware, provides public services for the town’s residents and local businesses.  Cheswold, located at the intersection of Routes 13 and 42, operates as a municipality, subject to the laws of Delaware, but is chartered to adopt and enforce its own laws within its corporate boundaries.
