The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for First State Webfooters on October 26th, at 11 am. The event was held at Kent County Recreation Center, 1683 New Burton Road in Dover (in the outside parking lot).  Chamber members and friends joined members of the club to celebrate 40 years of providing fun, fitness, and friendship by offering special events and free programs.
The club’s mission is to promote and organize noncompetitive fitness activities that encourage lifelong fun, fitness and friendship to all ages and abilities.  Their goal is to increasingly engage Americans in lifelong walking and other noncompetitive physical fitness activities.  The club organizes 5K and 10K walking trails throughout Delaware and a 10K to 43K biking trail between Rehoboth and Lewes.  In addition, the club members participate in other state American Volkssport Association (AVA) events, as well as, plan and organize monthly outings just for fun.  In 2022, the club is adding an addition trail and biking route at a new location.
The club was founded by members of the military stationed at Dover Air Force Base.  They became a member of the American Volkssport Walking club (AVA) in 1981, which is a noncompetitive walking, biking, swimming, and cross-country ski events.  Throughout these past 40 years the First State Webfooters has organized year-round, traditional, and special walking and bike events. This year they are happy to be able to add swimming to the 31st Sea Witch Festival, October 31st at the Sussex YMCA, making this event a triathlon.
First State Webfooters is a proud member of the Central Delaware community and is eager to find ways to give back.  They currently offer their “Couch to 5K” program, whose goal is to increase the walking level of individuals to the point where they can comfortably participate in a 5K.  In addition, the club’s walking events are “at your own pace,” noncompetitive events which are held throughout the year. Their goal for the future is to increase the number of activities available for family outings. They want to continue to promote fun, fitness and friendship to all.
