The U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that
Michelle Harris is District Director of SBA’s Delaware Office. In her new role,
Harris will manage the delivery of SBA programs and services to small
businesses throughout Delaware.
Ms. Harris brings ample leadership and SBA-agency experience
to her District Director role. Before joining SBA, Harris was Regional
Assistance Division Manager for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office
of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. Prior to that, Harris served
as an SBA Lead Business Opportunity Specialist in SBA’s 8(a) Business
Development Continuing Eligibility Office. In that role, Harris served as a technical
resource to team members; a member of the leadership team centralizing all
reviews from SBA field offices to SBA’s headquarters office; and assisted in
developing policy and training for this then-newly formed office. Earlier in
her career, Harris was the Executive Director for the State of Delaware’s
Office of Supplier Diversity.
“I am pleased Michelle Harris will head SBA’s field
operations in Delaware,” said Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator and former
SBA Delaware Director John Fleming. “Her leadership and experience will serve
our First State small business community well.”
“I look forward to working with the SBA Delaware team, SBA-backed
‘resource partner’ organizations, and SBA lending partners to support First
State small businesses,” Harris said. “Delaware is my home state, so I know how
critical entrepreneurs and small businesses are here. That is why I am
passionate about furthering SBA’s mission in Delaware, providing programs and
services to champion those entrepreneurs’ success.”
SBA’s Delaware office carries out SBA’s mission to assist
small business to start, grow and succeed. SBA Delaware helps First State small
businesses gain access to capital, counseling and government contracting
opportunities. SBA-backed ‘resource partner’ organizations in Delaware provide technical
assistance throughout the First State, and SBA’s lending partners help finance
small business success, making $66.5 million in SBA-backed to small businesses
in fiscal year 2021.
