Dover Kent MPO Concludes Successful Parklet Pilot Program with Final Two Grants Kent County - The Dover Kent Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the Parklet Pilot Program, which was initiated in 2021 to enhance community spaces and promote sustainable transportation options. The final two grants have been awarded to Bowers Beach and the Downtown Dover Partnership, marking the end of this exciting initiative. T

 

he Parklet Pilot Program, launched in 2021, was designed to support local municipalities and organizations in creating vibrant public spaces. Today, the Dover Kent MPO is proud to reveal the recipients of the last two grants in this program. Bowers Beach - The first of the final grants has been awarded to Bowers Beach for installing a bike rack and a fix-it station in the town's main parking lot. This project is set to improve access to the outdoors and promote biking as an eco-friendly means of transportation for the local community. 

 

Downtown Dover Partnership - The second grant recipient is the Downtown Dover Partnership for installing bike racks along the Senator Bikeway in front of the new Rail Haus on North West Street in Downtown Dover. This addition will not only enhance the area's accessibility but also encourage sustainable commuting for residents and visitors. 

 

While these two projects represent the culmination of the Parklet Pilot Program, the Dover Kent MPO is committed to continuing its support for future parklet initiatives. The Parklet How-To-Guide remains readily available for municipalities and business entities, providing a valuable resource for those interested in creating welcoming and sustainable public spaces. Furthermore, the MPO staff will continue to be available for technical assistance.

 

Helen Wiles, the Public Outreach Manager for the Dover Kent MPO, expressed her enthusiasm for the Parklet Pilot Program and its positive impact, saying, "The Parklet Pilot Program was a great opportunity for the municipalities in Kent County to get to know the MPO and to get a little extra help if needed on future Parklet endeavors. We are proud to have played a role in creating vibrant and sustainable spaces for our communities." 

 

The Dover/Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization is a Federally mandated not-for-profit that works with local, state and federal governments and local transportation organizations to ensure that transportation planning and projects comply with Federal mandates.
