Farmland preservation and related tax implications to be explored in upcoming meeting

The Delaware Farm Bureau, Delaware Cooperative Extension and Delaware Department of Agriculture have teamed up to present a Farmland Preservation and Tax Implication Program April 13 starting at 6 p.m.
The event, to be held at Townsend Fire Hall at 141 Main St., Townsend, will feature information on the Delaware Farmland Preservation Program presented by Jimmy Kroon of the DDA and related tax implications presented by Tracy Garofalo, an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service.
Stewart Ramsey, New Castle County Farm Bureau Chair, said that Delaware and its three counties have recently committed increased funding for agland preservation.
“It’s another reason why, even if you didn’t think about it before, maybe it’s a good time to start thinking about it,” he said.
The program includes light dinner and refreshments. Similar programs will be held in Kent and Sussex Counties in the future.
