First State Manufactured Housing Association 2017-2018 Scholarship Recipients Announced
First State Manufactured Housing Association is pleased to announce four recipients of the Manufactured Housing Scholarship Award for 2017-2018. The $4,000 award will be shared between the following four deserving recipients.
Brianna Boyd, a 2017 graduate with honors of Caesar Rodney High School resides in a manufactured home in Pinewood Acres in Dover. Brianna’s greatest achievement is that she has been a member of Girl Scouts for 13 years and has achieved her Bronze, Silver, Gold and Leadership Awards. Brianna has also served on the Girl Scout Board of Directors and has been a state representative at the national conference. Throughout all four years at Caesar Rodney, Brianna has participated in the following activities with various leadership roles; Civil Air Patrol, Marching & Concert Band, Youth in Government, Latin Club, Odyssey of The Mind, Blue & Gold All Star Band and Lacrosse. In the fall she will be attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Maintenance Science and will be a part of the Air Force ROTC program. Outside of school Brianna is a member of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). She also works as a server for Bob Evans part time during the school year and full time in the summer. After college she plans to enter into the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant as an Engineering officer while also pursuing her
masters and doctoral degrees in Aerospace Engineering. Upon retiring from the
Air Force, Brianna plans to work for NASA, Boeing or Lockheed Martin as an
aerospace engineer.
Brandon Bazemore, a 2017 graduate of Polytech Senior High School, will be attending Delaware Technical Community College in the fall majoring in Architectural Engineering Design. Throughout his four years at Polytech, Brandon was an honor roll student, a member of the Skills USA competition, and the drum line section leader for the Marching Band. Outside of school Brandon is an active member of Capitol Baptist Church of Dover and also works with Habitat for Humanity in the area of housing design for new home owners. Brandon currently resides in a manufactured home in St. Jones Landing in Magnolia.
Kyle Hammond,
a 2017 graduate of Lake Forest High School earned a 3.7 GPA. He resides
in a manufactured home in Houston. Kyle will be attending Wesley College
in the fall to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Multimedia
Communications. He plans to live on campus his freshmen year to get
adjusted to living on his own. His goal is to become a Sports Journalist
or Sports Broadcaster either on a TV Station, Sports Media Station or Radio Station.
While attending Lake Forest High School he participated in many activities such
as Freshmen Football, Varsity Soccer, JV & Varsity Basketball, Business
Professionals of America, Delaware Volunteer Program, Spartan Lifeline Program,
Presidential Volunteer Service Program, Honors Program, Summer Basketball Camp,
Little Spartans Basketball Program and the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. Kyle also participates in community activities such as
Harrington Parks & Recreation, Delaware Food Bank, and Milford Boys &
Girls Club. Kyle has received numerous awards for sports and community
activities. When Kyle is not busy with volunteering, hanging out with
friends, working or attending church, you will find him working out in the gym
or anywhere he can play the game of basketball.
Eric Nielsen, a 2016 graduate of Milford Senior High School,
currently attends George Mason University majoring in Government and
International Politics with a concentration in Philosophy, Politics, and
Economics. At George Mason, Eric is the Clerk of the Student Senate,
Treasurer of the College Republicans, and the 11th District College
Republican Federation of Virginia Representative. Outside of school, Eric
is a member of Avenue United Methodist Church and the Sussex County Astronomy
Club. Eric is interested in obtaining a law degree and working abroad for
the government. He enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and
family. Eric resides in a manufactured home in Shawnee Acres in Milford.
First State Manufactured Housing Association has provided $43,000.00 for 41 scholarships recipients since 1999, which are administrated by the Delaware Higher Education Commission. The scholarship program offered annually is available to high school seniors or former graduates who reside in manufactured housing within the State of Delaware for at least one year prior to application. Eligible candidates are also evaluated on scholastic record, financial need, essay and personal/professional recommendations. The scholarship may be used for any type of accredited two or four year degree program or for any accredited trainings, licensing, or certification program, or for any accredited degree program. Full or part time registration in an accredited program is acceptable (part time minimum – 7 credits). Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
