DR. MARK D. WEISMAN NAMED CHIEF MEDICAL INFORMATION OFFICER AT PRMC

Steve Leonard, MBA, FACHE, President/CEO of Peninsula Regional Health System and Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC), announced today that Mark D. Weisman, MD, MBA has joined PRMC as its Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO).
Dr. Weisman, an internal medicine specialist, has extensive experience in advancing clinical and technological opportunities to improve quality of care, cost effectiveness and to reduce waste and unnecessary workload. He has had numerous leadership roles in clinical management, strategy and development, analytics and informatics.
He was most recently the Medical Director of Analytics, Informatics, Innovation and Strategy at Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, VA. Dr. Weisman, who is also a Past Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Sentara, was with that health system for the last 18 years. He led technology initiatives to identify operational challenges and opportunities and implement solutions to enhance clinical quality and improve patient outcomes. Under his leadership, Sentara has consistently ranked among the nation’s top integrated healthcare systems, and a national leader in clinical quality.
In his role at PRMC, Dr. Weisman is responsible for leading the development of clinical information systems that assist clinicians in the delivery and continuous improvement of patient care, and for the initiation and on-going development of physician engagement in a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive quality/performance improvement program.
He received his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC and his MBA from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts. He is board-certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Weisman replaces Dr. Chris Snyder, who recently left his CMIO role to accept a new position with PRMC as its Chief Safety Officer/Physician Advisor.
