Delaware Crime Stoppers (DECS) today announced the appointment of Executive Director Robert Mooney and Chairman Michael Lawson to the Crime Stoppers USA (CSUSA) Board of Directors. Crime Stoppers USA is the national Crime Stoppers organization that spans the United States and the US Virgin Islands, creating a network of local programs that work together to prevent and solve crimes in communities and schools across the nation. Mooney has been with Delaware Crime Stoppers since 2003 and continues to serve in his current capacity as Executive Director. Lawson has been on the DECS board since 2012 and has been serving as Chairman since 2014. Both Mooney and Lawson are retired law enforcement officers in Delaware with ties to local and national law enforcement affiliations. Mooney previously served for ten years on the CSUSA Board as Director At Large and will now serve as the Regional Director for District 2 which oversees the Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Washington, D.C. crime stopper programs. Lawson has been assigned to serve as Regional Director for the 14^th District, overseeing the states of Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska. 

Mooney said, “It’s been an honor to have served previously at the national board level and I look forward to assisting the board in this new role. I am confident in the future of our local program here in Delaware and will continue working to keep our program a success. I am excited to start my new role as Regional Director.”

Lawson said, “I am excited be appointed to the board on the national level and will continue to lead the Crime Stoppers program here in Delaware. Crime Stoppers USA has phenomenal brand strength and community support.  As we look to the future and deepening our engagement with our community, we are fortunate to be a part of the Board on a national level.”

The Crime Stoppers program has enjoyed great success with the information received which has led to the arrest and indictment of those responsible for committing felony offenses, boasting an average conviction rate of approximately 95% on cases solved by a tip to the program. Delaware Crime Stoppers receives on average over 200 anonymous tips per month and is recognized as the lead tool for anonymous reporting by law enforcement in solving crimes. Programs under Crime Stoppers USA have led to the arrest of over 752,000 criminals and been helpful in solving over 16,000 homicides since inception of the program.
