Art Exhibit DBCC's Nurture with Nature Photography by Breast Cancer Survivors
Wilmington, DE
12/20/2022 10:51 AM
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) and the Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH) have been partnering to offer unique events for DBCC breast cancer survivors for several years. When the pandemic halted many in-person events DBCC’s Nurture with Nature Program found a way to keep breast cancer survivors connected, engaged, and outdoors experiencing nature by holding weekly at-home photography challenges.

Two years later, the popular challenges continue on a weekly basis, and the photography submitted by breast cancer survivors has grown to what is now a beautiful library of images taken in and around our home state of Delaware.

As Lois Wilkinson, Program Director of Survivorship in Kent & New Castle Counties for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition & Head of the Nurture with Nature Program said, “I am so excited about this art exhibit! The pictures the survivors submit each week are truly works of art.”

The Nurture with Nature program provides an opportunity for breast cancer survivors to connect with nature and form relationships with fellow survivors. The photo challenge is a fun and easy activity that encourages participants to discover the beauty of nature throughout the year. As one survivor put it, “I had my lumpectomy this week and found myself eagerly awaiting this Friday’s email to prod me to go for a couple of walks this weekend and find a good photo! I love having a quest.” Another wrote, “Thank you for giving us a way to relax and unwind!”

In hopes of sharing these beautiful images captured by survivors with the public and honoring their survivorship while raising funds, DBCC and DCH are partnering to co-host an Art Exhibit at the Delaware Center for Horticulture that will be open from January 6- February 28, 2023, for viewing. Visitors are invited to join DBCC on the opening night of January 6th at the Delaware Center for Horticulture in Wilmington from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. to enjoy the art, complimentary charcuterie, and a cash bar!

Attendees will have an opportunity to enjoy the exhibit, as well as an opportunity to purchase local breast cancer survivor photography which has been brought to life on either canvas or a metal surface with proceeds benefitting the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Nature with Nurture Program.

About Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is a 501(c)(3) organization offering statewide programs and services.  The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. empowers our community by raising awareness of breast health issues through survivorship support services, outreach and education, in order to facilitate the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Its vision is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope. The DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s advocacy efforts to end breast cancer.

Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Kent and Sussex Counties, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address their unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture, and economics, DBCC trains community advocates through their Peer Mentor Program, as well as works to help educate and encourage women and men to take responsibility for their health through breast health presentations and community health fairs. In addition, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition helps those with low incomes and those with little or no insurance receive free or reduced-cost care.
