The Delaware Farm Bureau (DEFB) Foundation is excited to celebrate Ag Literacy Week, March 17-21, by visiting elementary schools and helping students across the state learn about the importance of agriculture.
Ag Literacy Week is a nationwide initiative that teaches kids about agriculture’s impact on their daily routines. As part of this effort, DEFB Foundation volunteers will visit classrooms to read agriculturally accurate books, giving students a better understanding of where their food comes from, and the crucial role farmers play in their everyday lives.
"We love bringing Ag Literacy Week to Delaware schools and sparking an early appreciation for agriculture," said Alexis Langenfelder, Ag Literacy and Program Coordinator for DEFB. "By reading engaging, ag-accurate books, we hope to help kids connect with the farmers who work hard to produce the food, fiber, and fuel that keep our world running."
DEFB Foundation encourages community members to support agricultural literacy efforts by donating or promoting ag-accurate books. The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture has a list of recommended ag books that can be found at agfoundation.org/books.
Educators that would like a DEFB Foundation volunteer to read an agriculturally accurate book in their classroom during Ag Literacy Week. can contact Alexis Langenfelder at Alexis.langenfelder@defb.org.
