Delaware Hospice Announces Retirement of Longtime President & CEO Susan D. Lloyd; Prepares for Future Growth
Delaware Hospice, Inc. (“Delaware Hospice”) announced today that its longtime President and Chief Executive Officer, Susan D. Lloyd, MSN, RN, will retire later this year after 38 dedicated years of leadership and service. Lloyd, who joined the organization in 1988, has been instrumental in guiding Delaware Hospice from a singular service provider to a comprehensive, multi-program healthcare organization recognized as a leader in serious illness care throughout Delaware and parts of Pennsylvania.
Under Lloyd’s leadership, Delaware Hospice expanded significantly, growing from serving 35 patients per day to now supporting several thousand patients and families daily across its hospice, palliative care, pediatric services, bereavement support, dementia care, and community outreach programs. Her vision and strategic guidance have positioned Delaware Hospice, Inc. as an essential resource for those living with serious illness, ensuring high-quality, person-centered care remains accessible throughout the region.
"Susan Lloyd has been a transformative leader whose impact on our organization and the entire community has been extraordinary," said Dan McCarthy, Chair of the organization’s Board of Trustees. "We are immensely grateful for her decades of dedicated service and exceptional leadership. While we will certainly miss Susan, we are optimistic and energized about the future of Delaware Hospice as we embark on a diligent search for her successor."
The Board of Trustees has engaged the Furst Group, a nationally recognized executive search firm specializing in healthcare leadership, to assist in selecting a permanent successor.
"We are committed to moving swiftly yet thoughtfully through this transition," continued McCarthy. We believe strongly in the strength of the organization’s foundation and are excited about opportunities for future growth and innovation."
