As part of a wide-ranging initiative to upgrade Kent County’s Information Technology infrastructure, the domain name for County email addresses is currently being transitioned to kentcountyde.gov. In the first phase of a multi-part project, a new digital address has been secured and all co.kent.de.us email addresses are being converted to kentcountyde.gov.
With the .gov designation being the top-level domain for U.S.-based government organizations, the most significant advantage is that .gov includes enhanced security measures that include active vulnerability monitoring by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Also, kentcountyde.gov better aligns the County’s domain name with its brand, reflecting its mission to deliver services to the taxpayers and residents of Kent County.
Outgoing email from Kent County employees are also currently being converted to firstname.lastname@kentcountyde.gov. Inbound emails will be delivered using either the old or the new domain until December 31, 2024 to allow the County to update its media and marketing materials, business cards, letterhead, etc., in conjunction with the implementation of a new website which is expected to be completed by the 1st Quarter of 2023. After December 31, 2024, the old domain, co.kent.de.us, will no longer be active.
