Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore is celebrating “Direct Support Professional Week” by recognizing several Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for their extraordinary work in supporting people with disabilities, seniors and their families. The DSPs were nominated by their supervisors from each program in Easterseals’ statewide locations.

“Direct Support Professionals are a critical part of the lives of our program participants and their families and we are so proud to recognize them, especially this week,” Kenan Sklenar, Easterseals President/CEO, said. “With so many outstanding DSPs at Easterseals, our program supervisors had a difficult task selecting just one for our “Shining Star” award. DSPs being recognized were chosen because they treat each individual with dignity and respect and have gone above and beyond to ensure our participants continue to work towards independence, master new skills and remain a part of our community. I congratulate them all.”

DSPs being recognized this year for the dedication and passion they bring to their work and the people with disabilities and seniors they support are: Shamoya Barzey (Supported Employment program in Dover); Ashley Harris (Life Skills program in New Castle ); Faith Kurtz (Life Skills program in Newark); Lautricia Morris, (Life Skills program in Georgetown);); Ashley Short (Life Skills program in Dover); Linda Thomas (Adult Day Health in New Castle); and Jen Weiss (Prevocational program in Newark).

Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is a week held annually in September that honors the dedicated Direct Support Professional workforce and highlights the essential work done to support people with disabilities across the country so they can lead more independent lives.
