The
Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that motorists can
expect lane closures and potential back-ups for the following planned special
events in September.
Motorists should exercise
extra caution and share the road with bikes. Please follow the instructions of law enforcement officers
and DelDOT personnel on site.
Amish Country Bike Tour
in Dover – Saturday, September 9 beginning at 7 a.m.
There will be several hundred
cyclists leaving Legislative Mall in Dover and riding various roadways in Kent
County with a return trip to Legislative Mall.

Bottle & Cork 10
Miler and 5K at Dewey Beach – Saturday, September 9 beginning at 8 a.m.
Runners
will leave Dewey Beach heading to Rehoboth, Henlopen Acres, the boardwalk, and
returning to Dewey Beach for the 10 mile race. There will be a temporary
right lane closure on Route 1 northbound from McKinley Street to SR 1A in Dewey
for the race.

PowWow-Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10
The event will be take place
from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The grounds are located off of
Route 24/ John J. Williams Highway near Mt. Joy Road/Oak Orchard Road.
Fire police will assist with traffic control at Mt. Joy Road and Piaffe Lane.

Dewey Beach Sprint
Triathlon-Saturday, September 16 from 7:30 a.m. until noon
There will be a lane shift
north of Fred Hudson Road on SR 1 northbound, a
right lane closure on northbound SR 1 from north of Fred Hudson Rd through
Dewey Beach, and a left lane closure southbound from Pelicans Pouch to Fred
Hudson Road. Motorists should expect traffic delays for this event from Dewey
Beach to Fred Hudson Road. Trailblazers and message signs will be placed
to assist motorists.

Run-Sunday, September 17
At
7 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, motorists can expect delays on US 13 northbound
and southbound at Frightland, 309 Port Penn Road near Middletown. The
event is anticipated to be completed by 5 p.m.

Tour de Sussex –
Saturday, September 23 beginning at 8 a.m.
Several
hundred cyclists will leave Delaware Technical and Community College-Owens
Campus in Georgetown. Rest stops highlights will include: Dogfish Brewery, Irish Eyes, Papa

Magnolia Town Heritage
Day-Saturday, September 23
The
event will take place on Saturday, September 23 with a 5K race at 9 a.m.
During the race, motorists will encounter delays on Clapham Road northbound and
southbound. Sophers Row will be open to local traffic only. Irish Hill
Road eastbound will be detoured using Andersen Road to Woodlytown Road and
return to South State Street/Clapham Road.
The
road closures for the parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. South Street
northbound and southbound will be closed between Woodlytown Road and Sophers
Row. Irish Hill Road eastbound will also be closed at Sophers Row.
Barkers Landing Road westbound will be closed at Ponderosa Drive. The
parade begins from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Detour trailblazers and message
boards will be placed to assist traffic around the closures.

Bethany Beach Triathlon
& Duathlon-Sunday, September 24 from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Multiple
single lane closures will be in place on SR 1 northbound and southbound
starting at 6 a.m. between Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach. Lane
restrictions should be lifted by 11 a.m. In addition, there will be
various shoulder closures along SR 1 northbound and the right-turn lane
from Route 1 northbound to Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed for the
duration of the event.
Cyclists
will leave Garfield Parkway at Bethany Beach starting at 7:45 a.m. until 11
a.m. on Sunday, September 17 and continue on the shoulders of SR 1 northbound
over the Indian River Inlet Bridge turning around at New Road near Dewey
Beach. Cyclists will continue southbound on Route 1 over the Indian River
Inlet Bridge returning to Bethany Beach via Pennsylvania Avenue.

Dogfish Dash – Sunday,

The 12th annual Dogfish Dash takes
place on Sunday, September 24. Over
2,000 runners/walkers and volunteers will be in downtown Milton at the Dogfish
