Eighteen year-old Megan Roesser, a senior at Ursuline Academy, became inspired after learning about a program headed by Wilmington Police Lieutenant Dan Selekman and four other officers to strengthen Wilmington’s West Center City neighborhood by providing a variety of supportive services.  Megan realized there was a great need for low-income families and homeless people to have access to transportation.  She has been working on a project to purchase DART bus passes to get West Center City residents to work, medical appointments, and other places they need to go.  The Ursuline student, through several events at school, raised $1,334 for her initiative.

When Delaware Transit Corporation CEO John Sisson heard of her quest, he offered to match her collections.  In a ceremony today at Ursuline Academy, joined by Mayor Michael Purzycki, Police Chief Robert Tracy, representatives from the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), students and others, Sisson presented Megan with 225 DART Cards, valued at $3,622.50.

“We’re so pleased to support Megan in her efforts to give back to the Wilmington community.  DART bus transportation will provide the residents of West Center City with better access to employment opportunities, health care, grocery stores, and numerous other places that many of us take for granted,” said Sisson.

Megan, in turn, handed the DART Cards over to DHSS’s Porter State Service Center.  Megan will graduate this year and plans to establish this program so it can be operated by other interested students in the years to come.
